What is Reference Test Data?
Reference Test Data is internally consistent, extensively configurable, fully synthetic data that is designed to meet the consistency and realism requirements that software application testing demands. ExactData’s Reference Test Data is created without the use of production data, yet built to closely mimic the attributes of real data sets, in format and statistical validity, without loss of functionality (as in de-identified data sets) or privacy concerns as it is completely engineered from scratch.
How does Reference Test Data differ from de-identified data?
The process of de–identifying data takes live production data, and tries to remove all identifying elements. Reference Test Data is completely computer generated using no production data; data that can be used without risk, in its entirety, and without modification. Reference Test Data over comes all the downfalls of de-identified data, from the risk of re-identification, to lack of fundamental relevant data removed through the de-identification process.
Aside from security concerns, ExactData’s Reference Test Data can be created with certain features and ranges, to test specific features of your systems, and each data set has a “Truth File” or a descriptive file containing what each record contains, to allow verification of results. The key difference being that Reference Test Data can be engineered using the Dynamic Data Generator™ to produce desired ‘signals’ or events in the data, ensuring the desired business rules and the full range of a systems capabilities are all able to be tested. You cannot guarantee the available de-identified data will contain all the possible scenarios needed for thorough testing.
What is the Dynamic Data Generator™?
The Dynamic Data Generator™ is a web based software as a service (SaaS) application designed by ExactData, LLC. to generate realistic synthetic data for a variety of Applications including:
- Document Imaging
- EMR/EHR Systems
- Telephone Response Systems
- Data Mining Systems
- System Interoperability
- Identity Resolution System
- Case Management Systems
- Clinical Decision Support System
The Dynamic Data Generator™ is unique to the test data generation market in that it creates Reference Test Data – fully synthetic, internally constant data, extensively configurable data sets, along with a corresponding Truth File.
What is a Truth File?
The “Truth File” contains a transcript of the information contained in the Digital Test Deck® or printed output, created by the Dynamic Data Generator, in a human readable form to allow the efficient and effective testing of systems by being able to predict what your output should contain.
What is a Digital Test Deck®?
A Digital Test Deck® is a synthetic data set generated by the Dynamic Data Generator™ the:
- Paper Channel – Image or printed format, for paper capture, image processing and the collection of data from the image file
- Telephone Channel – formatted in script format for the training of staff or system load testing
- Internet or Personnel Computer input channels – typically large data files for system load and stress testing
How is Reference Test Data created?
ExactData’s construction of the Dynamic Data Generator™ (DDG) allows for rules to be established between fields and governance of the data type within a field, while maintaining statistical viability throughout the data set.
What are the uses for Reference Test Data?
There are a wide range of uses of Reference Test Data, including the testing of:
- Clinical Decision Support Systems
- Data Mining
- Data Capture Systems
- System Interoperability
- Identity Resolution Systems
- Case Management Systems
- Training of Staff
- Systems Load and Stress Testing
- Master Patient Index Solutions
- EMR/EHR Systems
Can data be created to any specifications?
Yes, we can create data sets with specific characteristics, in any format (print, image files, data files, scripts, etc) in any quantity. We can meet your needs.
How is the data delivered?
The data can be delivered to you in any format that you desire. Printed document, image files, data files, via FTP site, on flash drives, hard drives, etc.
Is the data HIPAA compliant?
Since our Reference Test Data is fully synthetic and does not rely on production data for its creation, it is always HIPAA compliant.
How many records can be ordered at one time?
You can order as few or as many records as you need. We have fulfilled orders ranging in size from small quantity of under of 100, into the millions.
Is this solution scalable?
Yes, we can create data sets with your specifications for any size range, statistical distribution, and rate of events.
Can the Dynamic Data Generator™ simulate outbreaks or epidemics?
Yes, the Dynamic Data Generator™ includes a pattern injection system, which allows the “injection” of an epidemic or outbreak into an otherwise normal data set. The injected data is configurable, reflecting your specifications for location of patient zero, as well as how the epidemic spreads through the population regions by age range and location.
Does ExactData offer data sets to be used in the testing of biometric or identity resolution systems?
Yes. We offer data to be used in testing of biometric or identity resolution system. Our Dynamic Data Generator™ produces longitudinally valid data, variability in demographic data, along with “needle in a haystack” technology to inject anomalies to mimic the naturally occurring patterns which the data mining application is designed to discover.
What solutions does ExactData offer the financial software testing world?
The Dynamic Data Generator™ is able to create a taxable household or company as well as generate longitudinal financial data sets that mimic real world transactions.
